| "Common Sense for Maine Taxpayers" Welcome to Citizens Alliance of Maine We are a statewide, grassroots network whose main function is to educate the voting public in matters of taxation. To that end, we will endeavor to maintain these pages up to date with information and activities that will help all Maine citizens to understand the issues relating to taxes in Maine. This is the news site for Maine Taxpayers United: www.mainetaxpayers.com.Our Mission: Reduce the local and state tax burden and promote prudent government spending. All visitors to this site are encouraged to submit their opinions to the editor. Our Opinion page will serve as a forum for discussion of the issues surrounding Maine taxes. An important objective of Citizens Alliance is to encourage Maine voters to become more active in civic affairs by:Writing letters to the editors of local papers; Hosting discussion groups; Forming local organizations such as taxpayer associations, and Joining organizations which are already active in working to reduce our tax burden.
All of these activities will contribute to making Maine a better place in which to live and work. And finally, a most important function is to contact one's representative and senator and express how you expect them to vote on important legislation, or to make it clear that you disapprove of legislation that they have supported, which has, of course, increased our tax burden. Upcoming Events On Friday night, August 20, the Yarmouth Republican Council will sponsor a "Candidates in the Park" event. This will take place at the Royal River Park on East Elm Street in Yarmouth from 6:30 - 8:00 p.m. Please feel free to bring lawn chairs, a blanket or something to relax on - plus also a possible picnic supper, if you would like. Cookies, popcorn, and drinks will be available for you to purchase at the Park, which will help defray our costs of sponsoring this event. There is no entrance fee for you.
We are hoping that most of the GOP candidates running for a political office in Cumberland County - as well as Paul LePage, who is running for Governor of Maine - will be at this event. They will be given the opportunity to speak, telling us their positions on various issues of the day, which will affect us Mainers. Then afterwards, you will have the opportunity to meet each one personally. Live music will round out the evening. 2010 Defending the American Dream Summit, Marriot Wardman Park, Washington, D.C., August 27th and 28th. Sponsored by Americans for Prosperity Foundation.
